Construction: Outposts & Satellites

From Fleets Game Guide

Jump to: navigation, search

Outposts allow players to construct ships, and flagships. Players are limited in their construction options by the tier of the outpost where the construction is occurring and by the technologies that the player has researched. In addition to having the prerequisite technologies that are necessary to build a ship or upgrade type, construction requires resources and time. For each tick a number of resources are deducted from each player's income according to the number and cost of things that were constructed. If a player doesn't have sufficient resources to cover the cost of production, then the total quantity of production will be decreased accordingly. Also, each outpost has a production rate that indicates how much construction can be performed at that outpost each tick.

Outposts

You start each zone owning one Outpost and its surrounding hexes. There are 3 different levels of outposts. The first is the standard outpost built by your construction frigate. You can upgrade this to the second tier - the Station - and then to the third tier - the Colony. Each additional tier will have a higher production rate and more sentries automatically built. Production and research rates can be increased further by building Factory and Laboratory Satellites.

You can upgrade your outpost to a higher tier after you have researched the appropriate technology. You select the tier from the top of that outpost's build menu. Each upgrade requires 5000 Ore and 2500 Crystal, but to improve from an Outpost to Station takes 500 Production while from a Station to Colony requires 750 Production.

Upgrades

Outposts are the basic settlement and production facility. They have a standard Production rate of 100 and an Energy rate of 100. They are protected by a Defense Grid with 10 Sentry Guns.

Stations are the second tier upgrade to Outposts, increasing Production and Energy to 150 each and improves the Defense Grid to 50 Sentry Guns.

Colonies are the largest space habitats and have base Production and Energy rate of 200. Their Defense Grids contain a forbidding array of 100 Sentry Guns.

Build

Your first outpost is placed on auto build, meaning it will keep construction orders to build ships in your queue until you turn it off.
This is set so that when you take over a computer in an already active zone the computer has been building, or if you forget to queue up any construction orders your outpost will auto queue up ships to be built. The auto build feature will not eliminate what you have personally queued. It will fulfill your orders and then only create a queue if you run out of orders.

  • Auto build will not kick in orders until you have 70% of your resource holding. So ore needs to be at at least 35,000, crystal at 17,500 ...etc
  • Construction queue entries created by the autobuilder show up with green numbers instead of the usual yellow.
  • If you are under 10% resource reserve (5,000 Ore, 2,500 Crystal), the autobuilder will attempt to cancel any remaining autobuild production orders. However, if will not cancel a ship that has been partially built.

Set Production Fleet

The top right button in the commands box is called 'set production fleet.' This allows you to select the fleet, sitting on your outpost hex, that you want to put newly produced ships in as they are constructed.

Destroy

Each outpost and satellite can be self destructed. This will take 5 ticks to complete.

Taxes

These are only applied after several outposts and mining satellites are built or taken over by you. This just lowers the rate at which you gain resources from those latest outposts or satellites controlled over the threshold. This is a game balancing measure only.

Construction Frigates

Construction Frigates build Outposts, Satellites, and Platforms. After selecting the construction fleet on the map, Select the 'construction' button in the bottom right commands box. Construction Frigates will stay on the hex with the what they are building until it is complete. You can view the status bar of the construction process under the buildings' icon. Resources will be deducted as it builds. You can queue up orders to construct and once the frigate finishes what it is working on it will move to the next structure. The resources will not be deducted from structures pending in your queue until they actually begin construction.

Satellites

Satellites are add-on enhancements for your outposts that increase the outposts' capabilities. Outposts, Stations, and Colonies are limited to 2, 3, and 4 satellites, respectively, on adjoining hexes.

Mining

Mining Satellites gather additional resources from the hex they are built on. You can increase the resources a hex produces by surveying it with a flagship.

Laboratory

Laboratory Satellites increases the research rate by 100.

Factory

Factory Satellites increase the production rate of the attached outpost by 50.

Jump Gate

Jump Gates allow you to jump fleets across vast space in an instant. Once it is built you click on the outpost and select 'jump' from the lower right commands box. This will ask you to select a fleet to jump, you may only select a fleet on that outpost. Then it will ask you to select a jump target. You can select another outpost with its own jump gate, or a Support Carrier which will act only as an exit for jump gates. You must have enough energy at your outpost to jump the amount of net worth for your fleet.

  • The ratios is 1 energy : 100 net worth.

So a 20,000 net worth fleet would cost 200 energy to jump

Platforms

A Defense Platform builds 50 Sentry Guns and has a sight range of three hexes. It can be placed on any unoccupied hex. It is often used to fill in spaces or to provide a barrier from a neighbor. Defense Platforms are not included in the count for the maximum number of Satellites.
