Choosing a Zone: Zone Types & Ticks

From Fleets Game Guide

Jump to: navigation, search

Before you can play Fleets you have to choose the map that is right for you. There are 4 different types of timed map zones and 4 different tick lengths. This makes it easy to find your perfect combination. There are also solo zones and team zones so you can choose to play by yourself or with your friends.

Zone Times

Zones run on roughly 3 different world time zones, you will see your local time displayed on the zone cards. You can choose the time frame that a zone runs to best fit your schedule, this is also stated on each individual zone card:

1. 24 hour Moves 24 hours a day without stopping. This is good for the player that can check their fleets and be on the game several times throughout the day.

2. Chaos Zones run for only 2 hours at a time, most will run for 2 days totalling a 4 hour game. They run on a 2 minute tick.

Ticks

Ticks are how often the game plays a turn. Ticks are universal so they change at the same time for every player in a map zone.

1. Medium = 60 minute tick interval. A map moving at this speed would move every hour on the top of the hour. This is a good speed for most players, not too fast and not too slow. You can queue up orders for several hours, let the orders run and only check on it ever so often.

2. Fast = 30 minute tick interval. A map moving at this speed would move every hour and half hour. This is perfect for someone that has time to check on Fleets every couple hours at least.

3. Chaos= 2 minute tick interval. This map is literally very chaotic. The purpose of these zones are for our more RTS players, who want the whole game in just a few hours.

Team Zones

Team zones are matched by how many members on a team. There are 3x3 5x5 and so on. To play in a team zone you need to invite others or be invited to join a team. You may invite others to play with you when you sign up for a team zone. Once your friends have accepted it will create the team and allow you to play that zone. Or you may be invited to join a team and then be added to the team zone once you accept.

Each team is only in existence in one zone, there are no permanent teams across multiple zones, though you may invite the same people to play in a different team zone.

FAQS

1. What is the Hour Zone: Test Map? I've heard that you can play with others here, but it's just empty except for me.

In this type of Hour Zone, you begin alone in your Home Cluster. There are several Jump Holes that allow entry into a larger playing field.

After 20 ticks, these will activate. You can leave your Home Cluster by positioning a fleet on the Jump Hole, and clicking Jump after selecting the Move command.

2. Can I attack my team-mates in the Team Zone?

Sadly, Team play protects your allies from the rampant backstabbery we have come to expect from Solo play.
